About the Book ~

My Thoughts ~

The Dress Shop on King Street by Ashley Clark is the epitome of southern charm!

This beautiful story has so much going for it, so much that makes it memorable! The author's poetic writing style is an example of perfection when it comes to similes, metaphors, and personification -- all things I adore! Each detail -- large and small -- takes on a beautiful life of its own. Additionally, this split-time story is unique from its counterparts because the historical storyline slowly merges with the present day storyline. While I felt a little disconnected from the characters at times, nothing could detract from the awe of the almost divine intersecting, crossing, and overlapping journeys of the characters! The contemporary storyline is humorous and nods to pop culture, and the historical storyline pulls at you like a haunting melody. The author sensitively and truthfully depicts the heartrending struggles, injustices, and sorrows that a biracial person would have experienced in the era. From start to finish, the complex, beautiful layers in The Dress Shop on King Street will hook you! Truly, I tip my imaginary cloche hat to the author!

The Dress Shop on King Street overflows with so many beautiful lessons and spiritual truths! However -- at its core -- it's a story about never giving up on the dreams God has given you because if God has given you a dream, then He is gonna make it happen -- you just might be a little foggy on the how (or when!) of it all! 

Four Stars ~ The Dress Shop on King Street by Ashley Clark brings southern charm to a new level! The Dress Shop on King Street is the first book in the Heirloom Secrets Series, and I'm looking forward to reading the next book!

Review of Whose Waves These Are by Amanda Dykes

My Thoughts ~

The theme of Whose Waves These Are by Amanda Dykes is found in the beauty of breaking...and rebuilding in the way only God can!

The author has a lyrical, poetic way of storytelling that is unique and different than other authors with this writing style. The words flow and move... Truly, it's like the author's words move like ocean waves, through blessed calm and heart-wrenching tragedy, crashing against the shore of the reader's heart. The setting flourished under this writing style, but by itself, Ansel-by-the-Sea is one of the most charming fictional towns I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing via story!

We experience the story through Robert and Annie's perspectives -- and it is quite the story! It is the kind of story that while you know it's fictional, you also know these stories exist (and maybe even in your own family history). Tales of daring rescue, crushing loss, and fathomless love. Their story -- because it is as much one story as it is two -- will move you to weep and fall to your knees in respect and grief, but it will also build something life-giving in your soul. It is a story of light piercing the darkness in a miraculous way that can only be credited to God. It is a story of looking for the light because -- as Roy said -- "there's a whole lotta light."

Four Stars ~ Whose Waves These Are by Amanda Dykes is a stunning story of hope and light in the darkness. Amanda Dykes is an author to watch! Whose Waves These Are is a standalone, but there is a prequel novella, Up from the Sea. However, it is not necessary to read it before reading Whose Waves These Are.

Review of The Curse of Misty Wayfair by Jaime Jo Wright

My Thoughts ~ 

Guys, no review that I write can bring justice to how masterful and engaging The Curse of Misty Wayfair by Jaime Jo Wright really is! Seriously, read this one!

Perhaps the thing I love the most about Jaime Jo Wright's romantic suspense stories is that they really break the mold of romantic suspense in Christian Fiction. They are truly unique! The romance is subtle, but it is believable, ending in a way that you know that Happily Ever After will happen after that last page. The suspense is filled with intrigue, murder, and yes, some creepiness. But that creepiness never, EVER overcomes the light! The mystery is so skillfully crafted, that all I can do is read, read, read until that conclusion where it all clicks into place. The Curse of Misty Wayfair more than lives up to the author's excellent abilities! Just...WOW!!!

Anxiety disorders, mental illness, and special needs are one of the main focuses of the story. These subjects are very near and personal to me, so I greatly appreciated the author's sensitivity and overflowing love in regards to these subjects. While my heart ached to read about some of the horrific pain and difficulties that I know all too well, God's tender love proved to be the spotlight, pushing aside the heartache.

The Curse of Misty Wayfair is one of those books where I think I read it at the exact time I needed to read it, and I have a feeling a lot of other readers will feel the same way. Thea and Heidi's search for their identities and heritage is shrouded in mayhem. However, their discovery that other people, consequences of the past, or the things that life defines as normal doesn't define their identities, but that their identities are defined by the discovery of our Creator. This message will speak to your soul!

Five Stars ~ The Curse of Misty Wayfair by Jaime Jo Wright is a thrilling story that will have you gasping for breath until the last page! The Curse of Misty Wayfair is the author's third book, but it is a standalone, not a series.
