Review of Soul Raging by Ronie Kendig

About the Book ~

As Prophecies in the Book of the Wars Unfold, the Only Hope Is Uniting with the Enemy.

Leif Metcalfe is done waiting for answers and seizes control, a move that comes with a high price and a deadly risk: teaming up with the enemy. He can only pray what he uncovers will heal the wounds he's inflicted on those he loves.

Iskra Todorova refuses to believe Leif is irrevocably lost, despite evidence to the contrary. While trying to protect her daughter and track down Leif before it's too late, Iskra wonders if a member of the evil organization ArC has been in their midst since the beginning.

Torn apart by injuries and opposing views about Leif's treachery, team Reaper hunts one of their own. The only thing they agree on is not stopping but starting the final battle prophesied in the Book of the Wars.

My Thoughts ~

What epicness is this?

A series now laid to rest...

Oh, Reaper's fans are weeping...

In case you couldn't tell from my little song, I am both thrilled and devastated by the ending to The Book of the Wars Series by Ronie Kendig! Soul Raging more than met my bar of expectations -- it exceeded them!

Each page of Soul Raging oozed with ooga chaka awesomeness! No spoilers on the plot, but suffice it to say it's got serious Marvel's Winter Soldier meets Jason Bourne vibes. I was in awe at the unexpected twists, and the way the author rattled the foundation of the story -- multiple times! -- shook me to my reader core. How the author managed to tangle and untangle each thread of the story is beyond me -- my head hurts just trying to imagine it!

Readers will loose their heart to Leif and Team Reaper as they fight to reclaim souls! I've never rooted for Leif more than when he went where I both begged him not to go but where I needed to see him go and conquer! His redemption went so deep, to a depth so genuine, that in the final confrontation, his understanding of true salvation paired with his gift of mercy had me crying until long after I closed the back cover. Leif's journey from darkness to light can only be described as transformative redemption!

Five Stars ~ Soul Raging by Ronie Kendig is pure awesome sauce! Soul Raging is the third and final book in The Book of the Wars Series (which has ties into The Tox Files that's also by Ronie Kendig) and it should definitely be read in order!

Review of Kings Falling by Ronie Kendig

About the Book ~

As the Race for the Book of the Wars Escalates
the World Teeters on the Brink

Leif Metcalfe and his team, dubbed Reaper, need to recover the ancient Book of the Wars if they hope to stop the Armageddon Coalition and their pursuit of global economic control. But their attention has been diverted by a prophecy in the book that foretells of formidable warriors who will decimate the enemies of ArC. While Iskra Todorova uses her connections in the covert underworld to hunt down the Book of the Wars, Leif and Reaper attempt to neutralize these agents but quickly find themselves outmaneuvered and outgunned.

The more Reaper tries to stop the prophesied warriors, the more failure becomes a familiar, antagonistic foe. Friendships are fractured, and the team battles to hold it together long enough to defeat ArC. But as this millennia-old conspiracy creeps closer and closer to home, the implications could tear Leif and the team apart.

My Thoughts ~

Kings Falling by Ronie Kendig should come with a warning label that should henceforth be referred to as the Kendig Effect. Symptoms of the Kendig Effect include huddling in a corner while eating your own hair, rocking back and forth, and unintelligible muttering because you are both eager and terrified to read another installment from this author!

And that pretty much sums up Kings Falling!

The plot of Kings Falling -- no spoilers! -- is like playing a championship chess match while skydiving. With people shooting at you. And explosions...somewhere. Not sure where. The plot is so intricate and layered with plot twists and key details. The author even manages to take the buildup of a plot twist you expect and still make it shocking! It's...incredible! Additionally, the author takes readers on a journey of covert operations around the globe with a supernatural twist to boot! It's like National Treasure meets Marvel's Bucky Barnes meets Armageddon. THAT'S RIGHT!

Let's talk about the characters. Not only do the supporting characters leap off the pages with a life of their own, the main characters -- Leif and Iskra -- are awesome! Leif is the type of hero I one hundred percent believe we need to see more of in fiction! He's not perfect. In fact, as he navigates past trauma and current struggles, he reacts far from perfect. But he's real, and I love that in a fictional hero! And Iskra is a strong heroine that is inspirational and empowering! Despite trauma, unspeakable abuse, and horrific betrayal, she does not let the past hold her captive. And as Leif, Iskra, and the rest of Reaper navigate the darkness surrounding them, their desperate fight for light will resonate on a soul level!

Five Stars ~ Kings Falling by Ronie Kendig is a thrilling and suspenseful chess match of a story! Kings Falling is the second book in The Book of the Wars Series, and the books should be read in order of release to understand the storyline and to prevent major spoilers.

Spotlight for Brand of Light by Ronie Kendig

About the Book ~

There's a price on her head, and it has everything to do with the brand on her arm.

Tertian Space Coalition has blessed every planet in the quadrants with high technology, save one: Drosero. But in spite of their tenuous treaty with the ruling clans, TSC has plans for the backward planet. And they're not alone.

After a catastrophic explosion, Kersei Dragoumis awakens in a derelict shuttle, alone, injured, and ignorant of the forbidden technology that has swept her into a nightmare. The brand she's borne since childhood burns mysteriously, but the pain is nothing to that when she learns her family is dead and she is accursed of their murders.

Across the quadrants, Marco Dusan responds to the call of a holy order -- not to join them, but to seek a bounty. Gifted -- or cursed -- with abilities that mark him a Kynigos, a tracker sworn to bring interplanetary fugitives to justice, Marco discovers this particular bounty has nothing to do with justice and everything to do with prophecy. One that involves the hunter as much as the hunted.

My Thoughts Based on a Four Chapter Sampler ~

Goodness!

Those first four chapters have left me feeling a little crazed because I have to wait until DECEMBER to finish the story!

Excuse me while I wail...

If you only know Ronie Kendig for her military fiction, you won't be disappointed! The author takes that same talent for surging action, layered characters, and realistic blackops and combines it with a story that screams Firefly and Stargate and every medieval movie that you've ever loved! Between the varied action and the skillful combination of space opera and medieval kingdom, those first four chapters have me hooked!

Bottom Line ~ I cannot wait to read the full, epic story! Brand of Light by Ronie Kendig is the first book in the Dorseran Saga! This thrilling story will release on December 3rd, 2019!

Review of Storm Rising by Ronie Kendig

About the Book ~

Does an ancient book of prophecy hold the answers to saving the world...or predict its destruction?

Mentioned in the pages of the Old Testament but lost to history, the Book of the Wars has resurfaced, and its pages hold secrets -- and dangers -- never before seen on earth.

Tasked with capturing the ancient text, former Navy SEAL Leif Metcalfe is once more given command of his own team. But their best efforts are ruined when a notorious Bulgarian operative known as Viorica snatches the volume right out from under them.

Iskra "Viorica" Todorova is determined to use the book to secure the thing that matters most -- freedom. But a series of strange storms erupts around the globe, and the coming dangers foretold in the text threaten crops, lives, and entire nations. Though both are haunted by secrets of the past and neither trusts the other, Leif and Iskra must form an uneasy alliance to thwart impending disaster. However, the truth hidden in centuries-old words could unleash a storm of their own destruction.

My Thoughts ~

Goodness, Storm Rising by Ronie Kendig was...AMAZING!!! Do yourself a favor and GET THIS BOOK!!!

It was so awesome to reconnect with some of the amazing characters that I met in The Tox Files, but even the new characters -- looking at you, Iskra! -- more than held their own! Each character was incredibly crafted with past demons, strengths, motivation, quirks, and shortcomings. The author also has an amazing ability at writing not only a realistic male character but also the kind of hero who doesn't let fears or evil stop him from doing what's right! I loved Leif. He might be my new favorite hero from this author -- and that's saying something! His past (specifically, a forgotten six months) is shrouded in mystery, and he's...special. But you'll have to read the story to find out why! I loved the sarcastic humor that Leif and Mercy (can't forget my favorite hacker, or she'll delete my internet presence!) interject throughout the story! And Iskra, well, I love a tough female character as much as the next gal, but Iskra is in a class all her own! Her dark past could contain triggers for anyone who's dealt with sexual abuse. That said, her story is a fight for hope. Hope that she finds.

I don't want to give a lot away about the storyline, but it is a thrilling and epic tale that will leave you feeling like you just pounded fifteen shots of espresso after running a marathon! I love the way the author takes these nuggets from the Bible and creates a National Treasure meets Revelation storyline! The spiritual thread consisted of a fight for freedom and hope as both Leif and Iskra wrestle with the ghosts of their past. I appreciated that the author didn't shy away from dark realities. However, that darkness does not stop the beautiful cry of hope from piercing the reader's heart!

Five Stars ~ Storm Rising by Ronie Kendig is a thrilling adrenaline rush from start to finish! Storm Rising is the first book in Ronie Kendig's new The Book of the Wars Series from Bethany House Publishers. I would definitely recommending reading this series in order. There are previous stories some of the characters appear in, but you don't need to read those to understand the storyline of Storm Rising -- but it's so much fun if you do!!!

Review of Thirst of Steel by Ronie Kendig

About the Book ~

The Final Conflict Will Hinge on One of History's Most Dangerous Blades

Dismantled centuries ago, the sword of Goliath is still rumored to thirst for its enemies' blood. Cole "Tox" Russell wants only to put the dangers of his past behind him and begin his new life with Haven Cortes. First, though, he's called to complete a final mission: retrieve the sword and destroy the deadly Arrow & Flame Order.

The AFO, however, is determined to reunite the sword. Threatening the life of Ram and Tzivia's father, they jeopardize Ram's long-held and dangerous secret while demanding Tzivia locate the blade. With the Wraith team slowly being torn apart, things worsen when Mercy Maddox, a new operative, emerges with the stunning news that the artifact is tied to both Ram's secret and a string of unsolved serial murders.

Tox, Ram, and the others are forced to set aside fear and anger to target the true enemy. No matter the cost, Wraith must destroy the AFO . . . or join them in the flames.

My Thoughts ~

I stayed up until two in the morning to finish reading Thirst of Steel by Ronie Kendig.

Two. In. The. Morning.

Worth. Every. Minute.

I can't believe this is the last book... I can't believe The Tox Files are over... What am I going to do now??? (If you're acquainted with Tox, then you know I'm NOT being dramatic. If you aren't...well, all three books are available now, so I'd say it's time to binge read!) I'm trying really hard to hold my emotions in check because I know if I open that door, there's no closing it. I won't be able to stop mourning the end of this series, these characters, those...events. Those...beautiful, devastating events that raised the impact level of this legendary tale, concluding this series in the best possible way while still shredding my soul.

Sorry, no spoilers. ;-) Hehe.

Guys, Thirst of Steel destroyed me and blessed me and blew my stinking mind! Ronie Kendig is a literary genius! The skill and complexity of this novel kept me glued to my reading perch, frantically turning the pages. Think military thriller, a hint of romance, and secret societies with a National Treasure feel, making for a enthralling story! The characters (I heart Tox and Ram) with their complexities, failures, and triumphs are imprinted on my heart. And I loved the new perspectives! But despite the serious nature of the story, Ronie Kendig was able to write humor and heart and truth into the story in an organic way!

But from reader to reader, what I hope you see the most is this series is how awesome God is! Through the supernatural events of this series, Ronie Kendig reminds readers how big and powerful our God is. That He operates in the supernatural. That we can't limit Him to what we "know" because He is so much more. This was the truth that encouraged and challenged me the most throughout the story. <3

Five Stars ~ An epic conclusion to a thrilling series! Trust me when I say that this is one series you don't want to miss!!! Thirst of Steel is the last book in The Tox Files by Ronie Kendig. You should definitely read Conspiracy of Silence and Crown of Souls respectively before reading Thirst of Steel because the information learned in those books are essential to Thirst of Steel's plot.

Review of Crown of Souls by Ronie Kendig

About the Book ~

When You Stare Into the Abyss It Also Stares Into You

The bullet that rips into Cole "Tox" Russell was never meant to kill. It was meant to send a message. Only one man is skilled enough to have taken the shot, a rogue Special Forces operator who vanished months ago.

Alec King is perhaps the only person as skilled as Tox, and he's out for justice. Furious with orders that got his men killed, he intends to make those responsible pay. And he insists Tox join him, believing they are the same breed of soldier.

Afraid his old friend could be right, Tox battles a growing darkness within himself as he and his team are forced into another deadly encounter with antiquity. It appears Alec is harnessing the power of a mysterious artifact, a crown that history has linked to some of the worst slaughters in humanity. Racing to stop Alec before his vengeance is unleashed, Tox must fight the monster without becoming one.

My Thoughts ~

Wow! Ronie Kendig has done it again, forever claiming a spot as one of my go-to military, thriller, suspense authors!

Imagine if a military suspense, The Lord of the Rings, and National Treasure where all thrown into a literary blender, and then this concoction is sprinkled with a sweet romance. Clearly, I am no chef, but I think you get the point that this book is amazing!

Re-dive into the world of Cole "Tox" Russell, Haven (Kasey), Ram, and Tzivia. A world where history and the supernatural collide with our modern-day issues and unbelief. The story mostly flows from Tox and Haven's perspectives, but Ram (I love Ram!), Tzivia, and a mysterious, important man from the past make appearances that left me wanting more. This journey is rife with action, soul-searching, and...victory?

Sorry. I can't say more. Spoilers. And I relish in your frustration a little. Hehe. ;-)

The story is peppered with the spiritual premise that if you stare into the darkness, then it stares into you. Through Tox's struggles and secrets and Haven's steadfastness, reader's are reminded that no matter what they've done, God's love and forgiveness covers all.

Five Stars ~ A.Maz.Ing. Crown of Souls is the second book in The Tox Files. I would definitely recommend reading book one, Conspiracy of Silence, before diving into Crown of Souls. They make great binge reads! I'm looking forward to the next book, Thirst of Steel, to a mildly alarming, obsessive, great degree! Thirst of Steel releases on July 31st, 2018.

I received a copy of Crown of Souls by Ronie Kendig from Bethany House Publishers, a division of Baker Publishing Group. All opinions expressed are my own.

See you next time, and God bless you guys!!!

Hugs!
